During editing, a distinction is generally made between a soft and hard cut. A hard cut is a seamless sequence change, while a soft cut might be, for example a dissolve or a blend of two settings. A soft cut is often used to generate time jumps. In addition to the transition, there are the Fade In and Fade Out. Fade In brings the setting out of the darkness, and Fade Out blends the scene into darkness.
