Unlike an original script, this is when the script is based on a novel. A novel adaptation includes acquiring the relevant rights to the material. Usually popular books are made into films as they tend to attract a large or people familiar with the book. The disadvantage is that the film will inevitably be compared to the book with high expectations from readers that cannot always be met. With the relatively short duration of a feature film, cuts must be made to events in the book and scenes must generally represent scenes from the novel, not always exactly. Other scenes might have to even be rewritten to match the brevity of the action in a film.
