The Property Master is responsible for all "Props." This means all props explicitly described in the screenplay or those requested by the Director. The property master works closely with the Director discussing all the details regarding props before shooting begins. The Prop Master also consults the Actors collaborating with them on the props selected by the Director. The Prop Master administrates the prop department budget that falls under the responsibility of the Production Designer.

Though the Prop Master is responsible for obtaining props. Responsilbity for the Property on a film set can overlap with the Art Department - Set Decorator who dresses the set and must obtain their own property or furnishings. Strictly speaking if an Actor touches property it is a prop, everything else is part of the set and is the sole reponsibility of the Art Department.
