Eyeline Match
During the pre-production phase of a film project, the DP and the Director deconstruct scenes making decisions on camera angles. In order to make is easier for viewers to follow that actions and reactions of characters in various situations, specific rules are followed. the 180 degree rule; for example where a stationary camera must remain on either side fo the imaginray axis of a frames scene between 2 characters addressing one another.
An eyeline match is also associated with the comnept that the viewer prefers to see what the character on-screen is seeing, or eyeline match. If a character looks at something off-screen, there is a shot inserted to match this view. For example, a character looks to an object that is off-screen, then the camera cuts to that object the character is looking at.
