The screenwriter writes the film. No screenplay no film! The screenplay is the "score" of the film, the connective tissue of all its elements in a cohesive composition. The screenplay is interpreted by key production crew members, i.e. the Director. The screenplay format is a used strictly for the realization of a filmed story. There are 2 basic screenplays. the Spec Script, which is a writer's draft devotes to telling the story in action and dialogue with few if any camera angles specified. and The Shooting Script, which is the comprehensive production blueprint putting the action, characters and dialogue into camera angles, shots and edits.
