In its literary understanding, a character is a fictional creation, which appears in, and is developed through, the text. Literary figures hence distinguish by characterization, which in turn is carried out in different ways, according to the respective type of text/ literary genre. As opposed to prose characters, dramatic figures (such as screen characters) are ultimately created through the interpretation of an actor/actress, who may add nuances and fresh aspects to its literary model, or invent an entirely new character based on the model suggested by the script.
