Each film crew (a group of people hired by a production company for the purpose of producing a film or motion picture) is split into sub-groups, according to the various sets of tasks being performed during the pre-production-, production- and post-production phases of a film. These subgroups are called departments. (i.e. camera department, art department, production sound, etc.)
