Handheld Camera
(see also stedicam) A handheld camera is generally described as a camera that is portable, i.e. and requires no tripod. A portable film or video camera, which is usually operated from the shoulder developed in the 60's used specifically as a stylistic device; the Steadicam™, a more recent version, is a suspended tripod or (non-licensed) Steadycam, which comprises an intricate support system for portable movie and television cameras, and a stabilizing arm that enables "steady" images from a freely movable camera.
