Glossary: Pre-Production

Everything the organizational duties that must be competed before the begin of principal photography is considered pre-production. This includes Casting, Location Scouting, Production scheduling, organizing the Costume and Art Department, Production equipment and Catering as well as Transportation, i.e. all Location logistics. During this phase, the Screenplay may undergo revisions, the Producer may pursue additional funding. The last of the Actors are cast, and substitiutes found for Actors who left the project due to scheduling conficts for example.
