Glossary: Catharsis

Greek word for cleanse or purge. Dramatically a catharsis marks a change in emotion brought on by some dramatic event, e.g. the death of a character's father resulted in a release of strong feelings about a bad childhood, after which the character hade released negative emotions and felt more positive.
