Glossary: Period Film

Historical or Period films attempt in some measure to work through historical events or embed fictional stories into an historical context. These historical facts are often distorted or otherwise shown to adjust the action to the modern language of film. Historical films that play in ancient Egypt or in the Greco-Roman antiquity, are often referred to as "Sword and Sandal Epics. Period films are often produced at great expense as "epics."
