The antagonistic character provides a contrasting dynamic tension to a story. If the Main character or Protagonist is for example Heroic, struggling against social oppression, pressure or terrorism, there must be a Antagonist that embodies the struggle or is the face of evil. There by the Hero is provided with a concrete antagonist whom he can fight against.
