Glossary: Establishing Shot

In classic Hollywood films nearly eavery scene was introduced with an Establishing Shot, which offered a contextual view of the Location where the action subsequently took place. For example, if a scene where to play out in an office, the Establishing Shot might intially show a long Shot of an office building from across the street.
